Dorothy M. Youngblut, 88 years old of Jesup, and a resident of Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center in Waterloo, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, at the nursing home.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. – Friday, February 12, 2010, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, IA, with Fr. Kenneth C. Stecher officiating. Music by Brett Hershberger, organist, Todd Rohlfsen, soloist and the St. Athanasius Choir. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Richard Weber and Kenneth Youngblut, Jr. Casket Bearers will be Russell Weber, Larry Knebel, Jeff Ortner, Jerome J. Ortner, Duane Hunt and Steve Sorensen. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, February 11th from 2:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, where there will be a Catholic Daughters of America Rosary at 3:00 p.m. and Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Thursday. Mrs. Youngblut was born February 11, 1921, in Black Hawk County, Iowa, the daughter of Mathias J. Ortner and Margaret Loretta (Brown) Ortner. She attended area schools and graduated from Dunkerton High School before attending Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, IA, where she received her teaching certificate. She then taught in the rural area schools.
On June 20, 1943, she was united in marriage to Louis John Youngblut at St. Francis Catholic Church – Barclay, near Dunkerton, IA. Dorothy later began teaching at St. Athanasius Catholic School in Jesup and also helped on the farm before their retirement. Louis preceded her in death on April 10, 1987. Dorothy was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America in Jesup.
Mrs. Youngblut is survived by three sons, Robert L. (Betty) Youngblut of Evansdale, IA, Paul J. (Dee) Youngblut of Sumner, IA, James J. (Diane) Youngblut of Jesup, IA; one daughter, Susie (Dick) Curry of Jesup, IA; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; two brothers, John (Dorothy) Ortner of Dunkerton, IA, Richard Ortner of Jesup, IA; three sisters, Delores Kimmel of Ponca City, OK, Helen (Ralph) Weber of Raymond, IA and Mary Knebel of Jesup, IA. In addition to her husband, her parents; one sister, Kathleen Sorenson; one brother in infancy, Robert Ortner; and twin grand daughters Mary and Martha Youngblut preceded her in death. White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, is in charge of the arrangements.
