Earl R. Staack, 83, of Independence, died Friday evening, June 11, 2010 at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence following a long illness.
Earl was born on February 2, 1927 in Bush Creek, the son of Fred R. and Ella M. (Hay) Staack. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II, and was married to Laureda Ann Meyer in May 1956; the couple later divorced. Earl was employed with the John Deere Company, Waterloo for over 30 years prior to his retirement.
He is survived by four children; Nancy Staack Muir Independence, Thomas (Sue) Staack, Eldon, Mo., Diana (Greg) Devens, Bellevue, and Byron Staack, Oelwein, seven grandchildren, and two step-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Mitchell Staack, a grandson, Erik Earl Stoppel, seven brothers and sisters; Edna Hayden, Elsie Schmadeke, Eldora Staack, Ervin Staack, Clarence Staack, Lorenz Staack, and Everett Staack.
Memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence with burial in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 4 to 8 P.M.
