MT. VERNON, Mo. - Eldon M. Starling, 85, of Mt. Vernon, Mo., passed away at 2:50 a.m. on March 23, 2010 at the Autumn Court Residential Center in Mt. Vernon. Eldon was born on February 6, 1925 in Lowden, I the son of Arnold and Rose (Mourey) Starling. On September 17, 1949 he married Madeline Koile in Illinois. She preceded him in death on April 26, 1976. Eldon was the owner of Tom's Candy route for 15 years, he was cattle farmer and an auctioneer, and was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Mt. Vernon.
Those who survive him include: four daughters, Danita Berghammer of Pine City, Minnesota, Derice, of Milan, Illinois, Dawn Long of Medford, Wisconsin, and Darlis Gulick, of Miller; four sons, David Starling of Ames, Iowa, Darrel Starling of Independence, Iowa, Larry Starling of Missouri and Dennis Starling of Calamus, Iowa; nineteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and a special friend, Ruth Potter, of Mt. Vernon.
His parents, daughter, Darla Mae Starling, and a sister, Bethal Bartels, also preceded him in death.
Funeral services, under the direction of the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Mt. Vernon. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 26, in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 29, in the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Hazelton.
