Eleanor Behrens

INDEPENDENCE – Eleanor E. Behrens, 94, of Independence, died Wednesday evening, Dec. 16, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, following a short illness.
Eleanor was born on August 8, 1915, in Manchester, the daughter of Roy R. and Claire M. (Pentony) Stewart. She moved with her parents to Independence, only to return to Manchester in 1932 when her father became ill.
She attended the Manchester schools and returned to Independence in 1934. On January 1, 1938 she married Chester H. Behrens in Independence. He preceded her in death in 1979. Eleanor was employed with the Wapsi Valley Creamery in Independence for over 44 years, as well as provided housekeeping and daycare service too many families in Independence.
She is survived by four children; Christina Schnepf, Independence, IA., Judy (Burton) Cashner, Winthrop, IA., Roy (Mary) Behrens, Dysart, IA., and Richard Behrens, Independence, IA., seven grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Chester in 1979, and six brothers; Raymond, Gilbert, Bobby, Sherman, Richard, and Hugh Stewart.
Mrs. Behrens wishes were to be cremated with graveside services to be held in the spring. The Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory of Independence, IA., is in charge of arrangements.
