Independence - Eleanor J. Derr, 80, of rural Independence, died Friday, Sept. 3, 2010, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, following a short illness. She was born in Butler County, Iowa, the daughter of Emil John and Anna Louise (Schmidt) Roever. She graduated from high school in Waverly in 1948, and attended Wartburg College, also in Waverly. On Aug. 24, 1952, she and Rodger Curtis Derr were married at St. John's Lutheran Church in Clarksville. Mrs. Derr taught school for six years.
Derr is survived by her husband of 58 years, Rodger; one daughter, Claudette (David) Hayward of Columbus, Ind.; three sons: Randall (Debbie) Derr of Bellbrook, Ohio, Curtis (Sherrie) Derr of Kuna, Idaho, and Steven (Michele) Derr of Savannah, Ga.; six grandchildren and one sister, Mabel Steere of Greene. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother. Private family services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be forwarded to the family.
