WATERLOO – Ethel "Mae" (Luck) Milligan of Waterloo, died Thursday, Sept. 19, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center, in Waterloo.
Ethel Mae Luck was born on Aug. 16, 1922, in Butler County near Plainfield, the daughter of G.B. and Ethel (Blunt) Luck. She attended country school near her home. On Dec. 6, 1940, she was united in marriage to Harold Keith Milligan in Plainfield. Following their marriage, she received her high school diploma. Mae and Harold made their home in Waterloo, and during World War II, Mae worked for Chamberlain Mfg. The couple lived in the Clarksville, Shell Rock and Janesville area while their children were in school. They moved back to Waterloo in 1967. From 1969 to 1977, Mae worked as a custodian for the University Of Northern Iowa. Following Harold's death on July 9, 1995, she continued living in Waterloo until October 1996, when she moved to Nashua and later moved to Independence.
Mae was a member of Horton Baptist Church; attending services was special to her. She enjoyed singing and listening to country music. She loved kids, and especially spending time with her grand and great grandchildren. Mae was also a very social people person.
Mae is survived by one daughter, Peggy Ann Stevenson of Independence; one son, David H. Milligan of Waterloo; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Charity Gunderson and Donna (Bob) Westerfelt. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Clarence, Jack, Tracy and Ralph Milligan; and five sisters, Francis Strauser, Neoma Barna, Edna Strauser, Mabel Cagley and Keitha in infancy; and one great-great grandson, Dylan.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013 at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly with Pastor Gerald Van Dorn officiating. Burial will be at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo. Visitation will be held at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Milligan family.
