Obituary

Independence - Eugene L. Spece, 81, of Independence, died Feb. 8, at Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. He was born April 30, 1928, in Buchanan County, the son of William Riley and Nellie L. (Long) Spece. Spece is survived by 3 sons,: Alan (Sue) Spece of Independence; Mike (Rhonda) Spece of Winona and Randy (Cindy) Spece of Oelwein and one daughter, Teri (Dan) Shaffer of Independence. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 1 brother, Vernon (Florence) Spece of Independence, and 1 sister-in-law, Wanita Spece of Vinton. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, John Spece and Darrell Spece. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 12, 2010, at the White Funeral Home in Independence. On Thursday, Feb. 11th, there will be a Military Service beginning at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements. Friends may call for visitation from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11th, at the funeral home.
