OELWEIN – G. Dale Andersen, 89 years old, of Oelwein, died on Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Mercy Living Plus in Oelwein. He was born on Oct. 6, 1923, in Greenfield, the son of Jesse and Emma (Strickland) Andersen. He attended the area country schools. On May 26, 1943, he and the former Ruby Anne Wheatley were married in Omaha, Neb. She preceded him in death in 2011. During World War II, he served as a medic in the U.S. Army. After returning home, Mr. Andersen farmed until retiring and moving to Oelwein.
Mr. Andersen is survived by his son, Gary (Kathy) Andersen of East Moline, Ill.; his daughter, Dalene (Richard) Gosse of Oelwein; five grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Nedra (Harry) Bergman of Grand Junction, Colo.; and three brothers, Lyle (Sharon) Anderson of Janesville, Marlin (Ruby) Andersen of St. Louis, Mo., and Don (Lois) Anderson of Atlantic.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 19, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, with Pastor Lee Rocholtz officiating. Burial will be in Quasqueton Cemetery in Quasqueton. Friends may call for visitation from 5 until 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18, at the White Funeral Home in Independence where a Military Service begins at 7 p.m. On line condolences may be left at www.White-MtHope.com.
