OELWEIN – Gary L. Doyle, 74, of Oelwein, Iowa died on Saturday evening, Nov. 28, 2015 at Prairie Hills Assisted Living in Independence.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein, Iowa. Condolences may be directed to the family at 1706 Keokuk Avenue, Independence, Iowa 50644.
Gary Lee Doyle was born on July 11, 1941 in Flandreau, S.D., the son of Ernest and Velma (Jones) Doyle. He graduated from Egan High School in Egan, S.D. in the Class of 1959. Gary served in the South Dakota National Guard. Gary was united in marriage to Delores Rose Meyer on Sept. 22, 1961 in Ward, S.D. Gary and Delores moved to Waterloo, Iowa in 1967 and then to Oelwein in 1973. Gary worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad as an electrician for over 25 years. He also worked for the Independence and Oelwein school systems as a custodian.
Gary was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He enjoyed making crafts, grilling, fishing, spending time with his three grandchildren and going to their sporting events. He was a devoted care giver, husband and father. He will be missed by all who remember his smile and the twinkle in his eye.
Gary is survived by his wife, Delores Doyle of Oelwein; two daughters: Kim Doyle of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Shelly (John) Bagge of Independence; three grandchildren: Ben, Ashlyn and Michael Bagge; a sister, Theresa (John) Phelan of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a niece and nephew; and a sister-in-law, Marlene (Lyle) Westhoff of Olympia, Wash.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Pat Gariepy; and a brother, Robert Doyle.
