Glenda P. Nabholz, 88, of Independence, died Friday morning, July 23, at the Buchanan County Long Term Care Center in Independence following a short illness.
Glenda was born on Oct. 1, 1921, in Independence, Iowa the daughter of Hugo J. and Anna Mae (Weston) Melka. She graduated from the Independence High School in 1940 and was united in marriage to Homer L. Nabholz on June 22, 1943. The couple farmed in the Westburg Township in Buchanan County until their retirement. Glenda was active member of the Wesleyan Church and Grace Evangelical Church and the Buchanan County Farm Bureau Women.
She is survived by three children; Carol (Robert) Fisher, Independence; Larry Nabholz, and Jay (Jennifer) Nabholz both of Waterloo; three grandchildren: Todd Fisher, Carrie Bolles and Brad Fisher; three great grandchildren: Jacob, Addison and Lucas Bolles, and two sisters; Velma Nabholz, O'Brien, Fla., and Opal Hirsch, Waterloo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; Homer in 2004, two brothers; Harry and Donald Melka and a sister; Dorothy Schmidt.
Funeral services were held Monday at Grace Evangelical Church. Burial was in the Wilson Cemetery, Independence. To leave an on-line condolence please go to under obituaries.
