Gregg Robert Wallis (1949 - 2011)

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Gregg Robert Wallis, 61, of Jacksonville, Fla. died Monday, May 16.
He was born on July 15, 1949 in Independence, the son of Robert Franklin and Patricia Jean (Bantz) Wallis.
He graduated from high school in Independence with the class of 1967. He worked at Jesup Coop Creamery along with his father Bob until enlistment in the U.S. Navy in September of 1968.
Service in the Navy included three deployments to Vietnam, service aboard several ships, including the recovery ship (USS Ticonderoga) for Apollo 16, 17, and Skylab I, service in the Persian Gulf aboard the USS Elmer Montgomery, and he was an instructor at Great Lakes Naval Training Center. After a 20-year Naval career, he retired as a Chief Electrician in November 1988.
As a civilian, he enjoyed a second career in Jacksonville, Fla. as an electrical motor/control technician at Tesla Electric Armature and Machine, Inc. for 18 years.
Gregg is survived by one sister, Debra Wallis (Herbert Griffin) of Austin, Texas and nephew Andre Griffin- Wallis (Theresa) of Dallas, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bob Wallis in 1983 and his mother, Patricia in 2007.
Arrangements were made by the Neptune Society in Florida with burial at sea. He was returned to a place that he loved.
