Independence - Irnola L. Cherry, 92 years old, of Independence, Iowa, formerly of Rowley, Iowa, died on Monday, July 5, 2010, at the Buchanan County Health Center – LTC in Independence following a long illness. She was born in Buchanan County on September 16, 1917, the daughter of Carl Raymond and Helen Clara (Ciesielski) Sauer. She graduated from high school in Quasqueton, Iowa, with the Class of 1935. On January 12, 1938, she and Charles Fredric Cherry were married at the Methodist Parsonage in Independence, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1988. They farmed near Rowley until retiring. Mrs. Cherry also worked for a time at Marks Grocery in Rowley and she was a Queen's Way Clothing consultant. Mrs. Cherry was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Independence where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the U.M.W. She was also a member of the Republican Party. Mrs. Cherry was a former 4-H leader and a participant in several card clubs.

Mrs. Cherry is survived by 2 daughters, Sandra (Jim Franck) Thompson of Quasqueton, Iowa, and Cheryl (Victor) Larson of Saukville, Wisconsin, 6 grandchildren, Cherry Roach, Lloyd Koranda, Jon Thompson, Tami Staton, Misti Depies, and Valerie Kemp, 14 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandsons. She is also survived by 2 sisters, Saloma McCright of Alburnett, Iowa, and Joy (Howard) Saunders of Independence, Iowa, and 1 sister-in-law, Leone Sauer of Quasqueton, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church in Independence with Rev. Scott Meador and Rev. Kevin Jennings officiating. Music will be provided by Debbie Williams, organist, and Wanda Kress and Kenneth Palmer, vocalists. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Tami Staton, Misti Depies, Cherry Roach, Lloyd Koranda, Jon Thompson, and Valerie Kemp. Casket Bearers will be Chester Schantz, Curtis Schantz, Tony Sauer, Joe Saunders, Lee Cherry, and Jim Bell. Burial will be in Quasqueton Cemetery in Quasqueton, Iowa.
