Jackson D. "Jack" Cornelius (1928 - 2017)


INDEPENDENCE – Jackson D. "Jack" Cornelius, 88, of Waterloo, and formerly of Independence and Delhi, died Wednesday, Jan. 25, at Unity Point – Allen Hospital in Waterloo.
Jack was born on Nov. 22, 1928 in Waterloo, the son of Don and Viola "Nancy" (Parkins) Cornelius. He served in the US Army.
Jack is survived by three children: Steve (Jeannie) Cornelius, Topeka, Kansas, Deborah (Don) Hickey, Vinton, and Craig Cornelius, Waterloo; three step-children: Barb Cirese, Solon, Lona Feldman, Eugene, Ore., and Judy Welty, Center Point; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Scott Cornelius; a brother; Donald Cornelius; spouses: Jacquelyn Murray, Alice Cornelius, and Marvis Cornelius; his companion Bernice Lehmkuhl; and a step-daughter, Judy Armstrong.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 30, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Independence, with Rev. Greg DeBoer and Pastor David Condry officiating. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Orange Township Cemetery, Waterloo. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, and from 9 a.m. till services Monday at the church.
