WINTHROP – James "Jim" Schweitzer, 74, passed away suddenly, as a result of a grain elevator accident on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Winthrop, Iowa.
James Edward Schweitzer was born February 23, 1943, in Independence, Iowa, the son of Dale and Lucy Meyer Schweitzer. He grew up in rural Buchanan County, attending school at Lamont. After graduating from High School in 1961, he took over the family farm, following the death of his father. He farmed until 1996, but continued working for the Winthrop Elevator until his death.
James was united in marriage to Marilyn Hanley at South English, Iowa. To this union was born one daughter Angela.
Jim touched many lives. He enjoyed helping neighbors and volunteering in the community. He was a proud volunteer at the Aurora 4th of July celebration, working from morning until night. He was a faithful blood donor for the American Red Cross. He had donated an outstanding 50 gallons throughout the years. He enjoyed a simple life, spending time at home baking cookies and bread. When he wasn't doing that, he could be found tending to his garden and canning the fruits of his labor. As a final act of giving, Jim donated his body to the Iowa Donor Network.
