Jasper was born April 28, 1915 in Ellsworth, to John and Sarah Riskedahl, and graduated from Ellsworth Consolidated High School in 1933. He continued farming in Hamilton County until Jan. 1, 1942, when he entered the Army and spent the next three and a half years fighting with the 128th Infantry in and around the Philippines and New Guinea.
On June 21, 1946, Jasper married Maurine Edvenson in Rose Grove Church, Williams. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1950 with a degree in Agricultural Economics. In 1967, when Interstate 35 was built through the farm, the family moved to Independence where Jasper worked for the Farmers Home Administration until he retired in 1984.
He was active in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Gideon's International, the Lions Club, the Buchanan County Historical Society and the Eastern Iowa Tourism Association. His efforts were critical in saving and restoring the Wapsipinicon Mill, which is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Following the death of Maurine in 1999, Jasper married Thelma Olson in 2002. They moved to Ozark, Mo., where Thelma died in 2011. Jasper then moved to Columbus, Ohio to be near his oldest daughter.
