Jean Harland, 73, of Independence, died Friday, Nov. 6, at Mercy Living Plus in Oelwein. She was born June 5, 1936, in Oelwein, the daughter of Russell and Pauline Agnes (Reid) Zubrod. She attended the Fayette County schools. Before she retired, she worked in the housekeeping department at Peoples Memorial Hospital in Independence She was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary in Independence.
Harland is survived by two daughters, Donna "Nervy" (Clark) Fratzke of Independence, and Rochelle "Roach" (Darrin Ward) Harland of Waterloo; one son, Steven "Bud" Harland of Bethel Island, Calif., and two grandchildren: Bart Alan "Bud" Wilson and Kristin "Polly" Fratzke. She is also survived by three sisters, Jeri Greve of Ossian; Vir Hannan of Denver, and Ruthie Potwin of Waterloo; three brothers: Chuck (Eleanor) Zubrod of Clinton, Iowa, Dick (Barb) Zubrod of Oelwein, and Barney Zubrod of Waterloo, Iowa, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Jackie Damon, and one brother, Ed Zubrod. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 10, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, with Pastor Tom Jones officiating. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery in Independence at a later date. White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements.
