WOOSTER, Ohio – Jeanne A. Higgs, 76, of Wooster, passed away at her home on Saturday, Dec. 10, with her family by her side after a 3 year battle with cancer.
She was born in Independence, Iowa, on Jan. 26, 1940, the second oldest daughter of the late George and Wylma (Dodge) Johnson. She was united in marriage to Billy B. Higgs. He preceded her in death in 2009.
Jeanne came to Ohio in the late 50's. She worked at El Travador Restaurant, United Telephone Co., and then retired from Rubbermaid, Inc. in 1995 after 33 years. After retiring she worked part time at both First Stop Costume Shop and Wayne Holmes Transportation.
She was a member of the American Legion, where she enjoyed playing euchre with former co-workers and new acquaintances. She enjoyed yard sales, shopping, attending all of her grandchildren's sporting events and was an avid Cleveland Cavalier fan.
Surviving are a son, Lance (Judy) Higgs of Wooster; a daughter, Tonya Harris (Rick Marsh) of Atwater, Ohio; a brother, Brian Johnson of Wooster; a sister, Terry (John) Cerny of Jeromesville, Ohio; former sisters-in-law Eleanore Higgs, Eileen Higgs, Corene Johnson, Wylma Williamson, Chris (Dave) Nelson of Independence; and her beloved cousin, Judy (Don) Scott of Independence. She is also survived by her four granddaughters: Erika (Chad) Kellum, Jessika (Mark) Graser, Emalee Higgs, and Hannah Harris; as well as, three great-grandchildren; many nieces; nephews; her circle of friends; and her cat, Oscar.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Joanne Miller;a brother, Roger Johnson; a nephew, Shawn Burden; a sister-in-law, Millie (Bob) Duncan; and brothers-in-law, Roy and Raymond Higgs.
Per her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private inurnment of cremains will take place in Wooster Cemetery at a date decided by family.
