WATERLOO – Joan M. Glaza, 85, died Sunday, August 14, at Ravenwood Nursing & Rehab Center of natural causes.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, August 20 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Public visitation was from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, with a 4 p.m. Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation will continue for one hour before services at the church on Saturday.
Joan was born Nov. 1, 1930 in Jesup, daughter of John P. and Martha B. Trumm Demuth. After the death of her mother when she was one year old, she was raised by her father and step-mother Irene K. Friedman Demuth. She married M. James Glaza June 7, 1952 in Waterloo. He died Nov. 9, 2009.
Joan graduated from St. John Catholic School, Independence and was Clerk of Court for Black Hawk County for 29 years, retiring in 1992.
Joan was a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas, American Business Women's Assoc., former Chairman of Heritage Credit Union (now Veridian), 1st Female President of Iowa State Association of Counties, Board of Directors of Goodwill Industries, and member of Queen of Peace Parish Council.
She is survived by five sons: Robert (Debbie) of Veradale, Wash., Paul (Coleen) of Manchester, Philip (Debbie) and Thomas (Mona) both of Waterloo, and Andrew of Vinton; a daughter, Marian (Roger) Raum of Albia; ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren; three brothers: John (Annabelle) of Independence, Jerome of Winthrop, and Richard (JoAnn) of Illinois.
She was preceded in death by: her husband; three sisters, Bernita Hogan, Mary Corkery, and Kathleen Weber.
