Obituary

SHELLSBURG – John A. Lawless, 71 years old, of rural Shellsburg, Iowa, formerly of Independence, died on Monday, Nov. 5 at his home. He was born on Dec. 5, 1940, in Independence, the son of John Daniel and Alma Mildred (Andrews) Lawless.
On March 7, 1962, he and the former Patricia Ann Dewitt were married in Dodge Center, Minn.
Mr. Lawless is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patty, three sons, Karey (Freeda) Lawless of Conway, Ark., John Lawless of Vinton, and Jeff Lawless of Embarrass, Minn., two daughters, Cindy (Ron) Cress of Shellsburg, and Jolene (Mike) Welton of Cedar Rapids; and by one brother, David (Mary Lou) Lawless of Independence and three sisters, Marilyn Pippenger of Hannibal, Mo., Lenore (Neil) Snell of Waterloo, and Pam (Tom) Schafer of Independence.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, William Lawless, one sister, Delores Hoskins, and one grandson, John Dakota Lawless.
Friends may call for visitation from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, at the White Funeral Home in Independence. Private burial will be in Brandon Cemetery in Brandon. On line condolences may be left at www.White-MtHope.com.
