INDEPENDENCE– Joyce L. McAtee, 69, of Independence, Iowa died Thursday, Dec. 3, 2015 at Buchanan County Health Center in Independence, Iowa.
Joyce was born on Jan. 19, 1946, in Walker, Iowa the daughter of Edmund and Leah (Keffer) Cook. She was a graduate of East Buchanan High School, and received an Associate's Degree in Accounting from Kirkwood Community College. She spent most of her life working as a bookkeeper for Rowley Equipment in Rowley, Iowa. She volunteered many hours as a Treasurer at Hoover Wesleyan Church in rural Walker. Joyce had many hobbies, but she loved spending time with her grandchildren the most.
Joyce is survived by her mother, Leah Cook, Independence; her children: Michelle (Todd) Dudley, Walker, Doug McAtee, Worthington, Iowa, Stephanie (Dave) Boies, Independence, and Kristin (David) Vargas, Winthrop, Iowa; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters: Diane Davidson, Independence and Sharon Wilson, Omaha, Neb.; and a brother, Charles Cook, Amarillo, Texas.
She is preceded in death by her father Edmund Cook.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, Dec. 7, at 11 a.m. at the Reiff Funeral Home in Independence, with Pastor Charles Clark presiding. Burial will be in the Troy Mill Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday Dec. 6, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence.
