Kathleen Margaret Myers Hogan was born January 16, 1938, in Manchester, the daughter of Bill and Evelyn Felkey Kelly. She grew up on a farm northwest of Winthrop, attended local schools and graduated with the 1956 class of Winthrop High School. She received her Elementary Teaching Degree after graduating from Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids. Kathleen was united in marriage to Maurice Dean Myers on June 23, 1962, in Winthrop. To this union were born two children, Kelly and Deanna. Dean entered into his eternal rest on June 22, 1973. On July 5, 1975, Kathleen was united in marriage to Eugene Marcus Hogan in Winthrop. Gene entered into his eternal rest on March 6, 1987. Kathleen was a second grade elementary teacher; beginning her teaching career at Troy Mills and then at East Buchanan Schools for a total of over 30 years until her retirement in 1996. At 72 years of age, Kathleen entered into her eternal rest on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at her home, following an apparent heart attack. Preceding her in death were her parents and husbands, Dean and Gene. Survivors include her son, Kelly (Sharon) Myers of Dubuque; her daughter, Deanna (Gary) McElroy of Winthrop; her six grandchildren: Zachary Myers, Chelsea Myers, David (Brittney) McElroy, Kelsey (fiancé Steven Anderson) McElroy, Daniel McElroy, and Kathryn McElroy; and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Winthrop. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery at Winthrop. Friends may call until 10 a.m. Saturday at Fawcett Funeral Home in Winthrop. A memorial fund has been established.
