Kenneth L. Brewer, 72, of Masonville and formerly of Independence, died on Tuesday, June 29, 2010. Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein with Lonnie Brewer officiating.
Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. and for one hour before the service on Monday at the funeral home. Interment will Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Oelwein. A Memorial Fund has been established. Online obituary at www.jamisonschmitzfuneralhome.com Kenneth LeRoy Brewer was born on April 15, 1938 at Littleton and was raised by his father, Kenneth Carl Brewer. He received his education at the Fairbank and Lamont schools. Ken worked at the Mental Health Institute at Independence for 5 years and then for the City of Independence for 30 years. He lived most of his life in Independence and the past year at Masonville. Ken married Lucille Mae "Lucy" Forsythe Aug. 22, 2009 at Strawberry Point. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church at Strawberry Point. Ken enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening and working with his John Deere tractor on the farm. Ken is survived by his Wife: Lucy Brewer of Masonville; six children: Shirley Eschen of Guttenberg; Lori (Aaron) Haurum of Oelwein; Teresa (David) Erger of Brandon; Wayne (Sharon) Brewer of Corydon; Ryan Brewer of Waterloo and Allisia Brewer of Seale, Ala.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers: Gerald Brewer of Oelwein, Larry (Judy) Brewer of Oelwein and Willis Brewer of Independence; two sisters: Faith (Dennis) Edmondson of Vinton and Beverly Steggall of Oelwein; many nieces and nephews and his best friend: Kenny Clemens of Masonville.He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother
