MARSHALLTOWN – Larry Leaven, 74, died at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown on Sunday, March 5, 2017 shortly after an unexpected illness. He fought hard all the way to the end. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Leaven; seven children; several grandchildren; great grandchildren; and four siblings.
He was preceded in death by parents, Lawrence and Rozena Leaven; and siblings Kenny Leaven and Connie Higgins.
Larry was born in Walker on May 12, 1942. Working as an Electrical Engineer, Larry traveled overseas to many countries including Korea, India, Singapore, Iran, etc. He enjoyed racing cars, country dancing, listening to country music, reading horseback riding, and spending time with his family and friends. He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Shark (SSN-591) a Skipjack-class submarine.
For those who knew Larry will say that he was an extremely compassion and a generous human being. He taught many of us about "love and forgiveness". His fellows at the Iowa Veterans Home said "Larry was a good man" and will be dearly missed at the home. A good man who forever be loved by our Creator.
Memorial Service will be held at the St. John's Catholic Church in Independence, Iowa, on Saturday, March 25 at 10 a.m.
