HAZLETON – Laverne Perry, 77, of Hazleton died Monday evening, Dec. 24 at his home near Hazleton.
Laverne was born on April 16, 1935, near Brandon, the son of Luther L. and Bessie J. (Marovec) Perry. He attended the Quasqueton Schools in Quasqueton. On April 14, 1956 he was married to Loretto N. Usher in St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Laverne farmed in the Hazleton area and was employed as a wielder with Transco. He also hauled livestock from 1982 to 1998.
He is survived by his wife Loretto Perry, four sons; Mark (Joni) Perry, Spring Hills, Kansas; Steven Perry, Maxwell; David Perry, Hazleton; and Phillip (Erin) Perry, Oelwein; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Luther L. Perry, Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church, Independence with Rev. Don Plamondon officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Hazleton. Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence where a rosary was recited at 4 p.m. and a parish vigil service was held at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
