Leslie W. Buckingham (1918 - 2016)


CEDAR RAPIDS – Leslie W. Buckingham, 98, of Cedar Rapids, and formerly of Troy Mills, died Friday, Dec. 23, at Unity Point – St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Leslie was born on March 3, 1918 in Troy Mills, the son of Joseph and Margaret (Gipe) Buckingham. He attended the Troy Mills Schools and was married to Oma J. Stiles on Sept. 4, 1942. He served in the US Army during WW II from 1942 thru Dec. 2, 1945. Leslie was employed with Rath Packing Company in Waterloo prior to his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Oma J. Buckingham of Cedar Rapids; four children: Donna Vittitoe, Cedar Rapids, Barbara Jean Olsen, Aurora, Robert Buckingham, Wadena, and Kandace (Terry) Campbell, Cedar Rapids; ten grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; and a sister, Audrey Kress, Rowley.
Leslie was preceded in death by his parents; son-in law, Robert Olsen; three sisters: Lois Thompson, Gladys Cornwell, and Maude Ghere; and two brothers: Albert Buckingham and Harold Buckingham.
Private memorial services will be held at a later date.
The Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, is assisting the family with arrangements.
