Lonnie V. Widger, 58, of rural Independence, died Saturday at his home following a sudden illness.
He was born on June 27, 1952, in Waterloo, the son of Virgil William and Nadine Jeanne (Hoeg) Widger. He graduated from high school in Jesup, with the Class of 1970, and then served in the Marines Reserve. He graduated from Mt. Mercy College in Cedar Rapids in 1993, with a B.A. in accounting. On Nov. 3, 1973, he and the former Karen Kay Jensen were married in Hudson. Widger farmed and also was a training supervisor with Affina, LLC, in Waterloo. He was always busy and enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and spending time with his family.
Widger is survived by his wife, Karen of rural Independence, two daughters: Jenny Fischer of Independence, Iowa, and Kim (Bradley) Kendall of Peoria, Ariz., and one son, Virgil L. Widger of Ames.
He is also survived by his father, Virgil W. Widger of Jesup; three sisters: Rita (Gerold) Shatzer of Waterloo, Linda Kresser of Bettendorf, and Rhonda (Robert) Schum of Waukesha, Wis., and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother.
Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa. Friends may call for visitation from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 10, at the funeral home. On line condolences may be left at www.White-MtHope.com.
