INDEPENDENCE– Lyman Spencer Crowell, 88, of Independence went with the Lord on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016 in the Buchanan County Health Center, Independence.
Lyman was born on July 15, 1928 in Buchanan County the son of Fay Spencer and Marie Henrietta (Fidler) Crowell. He was raised on the Crowell farm near Littleton, and graduated with the Jesup High School Class of 1946. He married his bride Dorothy Jeanette Hansen on October 2, 1948 in the Little Brown Church, Nashua, and the couple made their home on the family farm near Independence. Lyman also retired from the John Deere Company in Waterloo, Iowa.
He served on the Jesup Community School Board and as an elder with the First Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy J. Crowell; four daughters: Lynda (Darryll) Leisinger, Wellington, Kan., Barbara (Paul) Kitner, Independence, Deborah (Scott) Geater, Independence, and Ruth Crowell (Terrance Harrelson) Muscatine; eleven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
Lyman is preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Jamie Leisinger; his brothers: Glen (Pete) Crowell, and Lester Crowell; and three sisters: Viola Masters, Velma Emme, and Grace Brown.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church, Jesup, with Rev. John Molacek officiating. Burial will be in the Littleton Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Littleton. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, and from 9 a.m. till services Thursday at the church.
