Marie R. Satterlee, 84 years old, of rural Independence, Iowa, died on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence following a short illness. She was born on April 19, 1925, in Oelwein, Iowa, the daughter of Matthew and Elizabeth (Burghart) Kisner. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Oelwein with the Class of 1943. On May 9, 1949, she and Clark Satterlee were married in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The most important activity for Mrs. Satterlee was caring for her family. She gardened and enjoyed fishing trips to Minnesota. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Independence and the Independence Merry Mixers Square Dance Club.
Mrs. Satterlee is survived by her husband of 60 years, Clark, 3 daughters, Diana Hulin of Jesup, Iowa, and Connie (Harry) Scott and Julie (Brad) Bagby, both of Independence, Iowa, and 1 son, Gary (Rhonda) Satterlee of Independence, Iowa. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 1 brother, Larry (Vi) Kisner of Parkersburg, Iowa, and 3 sisters, Kay Gaffney of Independence, Iowa, Betty Egan of Oelwein, Iowa, and Ann (Ed) Hyde of Deer Park, Washington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 brothers, 3 sisters, and 1 grandson in infancy. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 26, 2010, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa, with Rev. Dennis Bailey officiating. Casket Bearers will be Scott Crawford, Lance Hulin, Corey Satterlee, Nikki Buck, Blake Bagby, and Lacee Bates. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery in Independence. White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements. Friends may call for visitation from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 25th, at the funeral home.
