RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Marsh Hovey died at the age of 89 on Saturday, July 28. He was born in Jesup on Sept. 3, 1922 and grew up on the farm owned by his parents, L.S. and Eva Hovey. He graduated from Jesup Consolidated School in 1939 and attended Iowa State College. Marsh enlisted in the Army Air Corps Aviation Cadets in 1942 and married Margaret Kelso of Independence prior to being called to active duty. He served in the Air Force until 1966 when he retired at March Air Force Base as a Lt. Colonel. Marsh flew 43 combat missions as a Navigator on B17s in the 8th Air Force and received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with six Oak-leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal and the Air Force Commendation Medal and cluster, among others. After retirement Marsh and Margaret made their home in Riverside, Calif.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret, his son, Larry, his daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Teare Hovey, a sister, Marjorie Stroud and her husband J. Stanley Stroud as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins.
Services will be private and graveside only at Riverside National Cemetery.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in the deceased's name to the Mary S. Roberts Pet Adoption Center, 6165 Industrial Avenue, Riverside, CA 92504.
