INDEPENDENCE – Mary Jayne Greif, 89, of Naperville, Ill. and formerly of Independence, died peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 27 at the Tabor Hills Healthcare Facility in Naperville, Ill.
Mary Jayne was born March 10, 1924 in Independence, the daughter of Orin and Clara Primus. She was a graduate of Independence High School with the Class of 1941. She was employed at the Buchanan Abstract Company of Independence and later for the Civil Service Commission as a secretary in the Jet Propulsion Division of Air Service Command in Dayton, Ohio.
On Jan. 23, 1946 she was united in marriage to Paul Greif at St. John Catholic Church. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, St. John Rosary Society, Ladies Literary Club, Peoples Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Wapsipinicon Golf Club. She enjoyed homemaking, golf, jogging, socializing with friends and family and spending many winters in Florida.
Following the death of her husband, Mary Jayne moved from Independence to Naperville, Ill. in 2005 to spend her remaining years near her son and his family.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by her beloved husband Paul in 2003.
She is survived by her son Tim and daughter-in-law Maryanne Greif of Naperville, Ill., a sister Betty McCormick of Hampton, two grandsons, Andrew (Shenade) Greif of Geneva, Ill. and Tony Greif of Chicago, Ill., two great grandchildren Brogan Paul and Kaylee Jayne Greif of Geneva, Ill., a niece Julie (Rick) Salvesen, Hampton, and a nephew John (Dawn) McCormick, La Grange Park, Ill.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 8, at St. John's Catholic Church, Independence, with Rev. Don Plamondon officiating. Inurnment will be in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory in Independence.
