NASHUA – Mary Joan Haasis, 85, formerly of Waterloo, passed away at the Clarksville Skilled Nursing and Rehab Center in Clarksville on Monday, April 16, after an extended illness.
She was born in Lead, S.D. to A.J. and Neva (Gallup) Mendenhall. She graduated from Arlington High School in 1944 and married Everett "Jim" Haasis on Dec. 27 1949.
Mary taught in two country schools and was a homemaker. She is survived by six children, Dorothy Jamison, Phoenix, Ariz.; Joyce (John ) Trent, Des Moines; John (Luanne) Haasis, Waverly; Carl Haasis, Waterloo; Dawn (Robert) Ruth, Plainfield; and Harold Haasis, Nashua; a sister, Audrey Bergman, Dubuque and a brother-in-law, Anton "Jack" Schmidt. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, tow sisters and her husband.
Services are planned for Saturday, May 5 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 505 Franklin Street, Waterloo.
Burial will be at the Littleton Cemetery.
