QUASQUETON – Mary H. Summerhill, 80, of Independence, Iowa and formerly of Quasqueton, Iowa died Thursday evening, July 16 at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence following a long illness.
Mary was born Sept. 16, 1928, in Traskwood, Ark. the daughter of John Z. and Alma (Tull) Cunningham. She graduated from the Traskwood High School and was united in marriage to William F. Summerhill Jan. 5, 1947. The couple lived in the Albuquerque, N.M. where Mary was employed at a Day Care Center. In 1990 the couple moved to Benton, Ark. Following the death of her husband Mary moved to Quasqueton in 1999 making her home with her daughter.
She is survived by four children: Marsha Hepker, Quasqueton, and William, John and James Summerhill all of Albuquerque, NM.; seven grandchildren, six-great grandchildren, a brother John Cunningham, Traskwood, Ark., and a sister, Minnie Cunningham, Benton, Ark.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William Feb. 13, 1999, a sister, Joyce Smith, and two brothers: Joe and Glenn Cunningham.
Private graveside services will be held at the Quasqueton Cemetery, Quasqueton, followed by a memorial service at 1 P.M. Monday at the West Village Care Center in Independence.
