Independence - Maxine Andersen, 88, of Independence, died on Friday, Dec. 18, at the LaPorte City Nursing and Rehab Center in LaPorte City, following a short illness. She was born on July 1, 1921, in Mt. Auburn, the daughter of I.J. and Minerva (Robbins) Dillon. She graduated from high school in LaPorte City, with the Class of 1939. On May 15, 1943, she and Ernest Fred Andersen were married at Mrs. Andersen's family home in LaPorte City. He preceded her in death in 1995. For fourteen years, Mrs. Anderson worked at Hinson Manufacturing in Waterloo, before retiring. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence. Andersen is survived by her daughter, Carol (Wayne) Hilliard of Brandon, and her sons, Don (Cheryl Scott) Andersen of Walker, and Joe (Zelda) Andersen of Independence. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 1 great great granddaughter.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 1 grandson, and 3 brothers, Harold Dillon, Wayne Dillon, and Roger Dillon. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 21, 2009, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence, Iowa, with Pastor Tom Jones officiating. Music will be provided by Mrs. Duane Gray, organist. Burial will be in the Rowley Cemetery in Rowley. White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements.
