LINCOLN, Mo. - Opal "Gram" Gaffney, 100, of Lincoln, died Saturday, March 13, 2010, at Good Samaritan Care Center, Cole Camp, Mo. She was born on August 26, 1909, at Bondurandt, a daughter of Frank and Susie (Congdon) Uthe. In 1927, she graduated from high school in Winthrop. On July 4, 1927, she was united in marriage to Dale Phillip Gaffney, who preceded her in death Nov. 22, 1965.
For 32 years, she was a baker at A & L Bakery in Waterloo. In 1995, she moved to Grandview, Mo., to be with her granddaughter, Dottie, and then in 2000, she moved to Lakeview Heights, Mo. She loved to sew and play with her dog, Edna. One her favorite hangouts was Buck Naked, where she enjoyed doing the jitterbug and visiting with friends. She embroidered tea towels and pillowcases to be donated to charities. She is survived by three grandchildren, Dorothy "Dottie" Marvene Owings and her husband Tom of Lakeview Heights II, Mo.; Judy Ann Boughter and her husband Tom of Royerford, Pa. and Tina Dostart and her husband Steve of Evansdale; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Dorothy Marvene Gaffney on April 6, 1937; two sons: Dean Phillip Gaffney Aug. 18, 1983, and George Richard Gaffney Aug. 7, 1977; two sisters: Marquerite Uthe and Ida Marvene Story, and four brothers: Cecil Grant Uthe, John Francis Uthe, Harold William Uthe, and Ray Franklin Uthe. Graveside services were held Friday, at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Winthrop. The family suggests memorial contributions be given to Good Samaritan Care Center in care of the Fox Funeral Home, Cole Camp, Mo. Visit our guestbook at www.bulletinjournal.com.
