INDEPENDENCE– Patricia E. "Pat" Hand, 86, of Surprise, Arizona and formerly of Independence died Wednesday evening, Oct. 31 at the Gardens of Sunset Care Center in Arizona.
Pat was born on April 5, 1926, in Mitchell the daughter of Albert A. and Nona G. (Cole) Zastrow. She was a 1944 graduate of the Mitchell High School, and was united into marriage to Gerald H. Hand on April 9, 1949 in Chicago, Ill. The couple made their home in Independence where they operated the family business, Hand Implement. Pat was the bookkeeper for over twenty five years.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Eastern Star, the Shriners Auxiliary, and the Jesup Golf and Country Club. She was an avid reader and loved to golf, play bridge, and go dancing.
Pat is survived by two children; Doug (Cheryl) Hand, Independence, Debra (Mark) Hess, Cedar Rapids, two step-daughters; Cynthia (Mike Tracy) Hand, and Kathleen Hand all of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren one step granddaughter, and nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gerald on Aug. 9, 1992, and a brother; James Zastrow.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10 at the First United Methodist Church, Independence, with Rev. Scott Meador officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence and from 9 a.m. till services Saturday at the church.
