Independence - Paul L. Lappe, 68 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Thursday, September 16, 2010, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. He was born on December 23, 1941, in Independence, Iowa, the son of Arthur Clement and Mildred Marie (Murphy) Lappe. He attended St. John's Catholic School in Independence and then, served in the U.S. Navy. On Sept. 25, 1965, he and the former Marjorie Jo Weber were married in Independence. Lappe was an automobile salesman at A.C. Burkhart and at Butterfield Chrysler for a total of 23 years. In 1991, he opened his own custom cabinet construction business. He never really retired. Lappe is survived by his wife, Marjorie;o one son, Eric (Kathie) Lappe of Virginia Beach, Va.; one daughter, Paula (Tim) Wielinski of Cedar Falls, and three grandchildren. He is also survived by four brothers: Leroy (Roselyn) Lappe of Independence, Jim (Sandra) Lappe of Iowa Falls, and John (Carol) Lappe and Richard (Christine) Lappe, both of Waterloo, and four sisters: Rosalind Gibbs of Independence, Mary (Roger) Greathouse of Iowa City, Katherine (Larry) Brenneman of Riverside and Rita (Brian) Ridler of Woodward. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, William Lappe. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with burial in St. John's Cemetery.
