INDEPENDENCE – Pauline M. Brace, 87 years old, of Independence, died on Sunday, Jan. 12, at ABCM Nursing and Rehabilitation Independence – West in Independence. She was born on Feb. 26, 1926, in Independence, the daughter of Andrew Joseph and Julia Marie (VanWaus) Turley. She graduated from St. John High School in Independence with the Class of 1945. On Feb. 18, 1947, she and Clair "Tad" Ervin Brace were married at St. John's Catholic Church in Independence. He preceded her in death in 1985. Mrs. Brace was a clerk at Anthony's Department Store and at Eschen's Clothing, both in Independence, before retiring in 1995. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Independence. She was an expert at baking pies and enjoyed sewing and shopping for fabrics.
Mrs. Brace is survived by three sons, Richard (Connie) Brace of Cedar Rapids, and Jim (Joanne) Brace and Dan (Shirley) Brace, both of Winthrop, two daughters, Judy (Don) Wulfekuhle and Janet (Jon) Isham, both of Independence, seven grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter in infancy, Julianne Brace; one granddaughter, Nicole Brace; and one brother, Joseph Turley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 15, at St. John's Catholic Church in Independence. Rev. Donald Plamondon will be the Celebrant. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in Independence. Friends called for visitation from 3 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at the White Funeral Home in Independence where a Parish Rosary began at 3 p.m. On line condolences may be left at
