INDEPENDENCE – Phyllis J. Jurgensen, 72, of Independence, died Sunday morning at the Buchanan County Health Center, Independence following a long illness.
Phyllis was born Nov. 21, 1936, in Independence, the daughter of the Harry and Gladys (Buckingham) Cornwell. She was employed as a Psychiatric Aide at the Mental Health Institute in Independence for 30+ years retiring in 1997. She is survived by her children Christine (Tracy) Thomas of Rowley, Deborah (John Davis) Herington of Independence, Marlene Cowen of Katy, Texas, Luwonna (Jim) Brinkerhoff of Center Point, Kathleen (DuWayne Klatt) Stangl of Longville Minn., and Shelly (Roger) Sperfslage of Winthrop, 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, a sister Peg Auer of Winthrop, brother Larry Cornwell of Bristow. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lloyd Jurgensen, sister Dolores Taylor, daughter Roxanne, granddaughter Emily, great grandson Alex.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 2 p.m. at the Reiff Funeral Home and Crematory, Independence with the Rev. James Wolf officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Funeral Home.
