JESUP - Phyllis L. Yearous , 76, of Independence, and formerly of Jesup, died Sunday, May 31, at the Buchanan County Health Center, Independence, from cancer. She was born May 25, 1933, on a farm near Independence, the daughter of Jasper Chandler and Erma Rose (Snyder) Chandler. She attended high school at Stanley, and graduated with the class of 1951. On Sept. 2, 1951, she was united in marriage to Wayne Ammond Yearous at the Methodist Church in Stanley. Phyllis worked as a cook for the hot lunch program at Independence Community Schools for 23 ½ years and was kitchen manager at the Independence Middle School. She retired in 1990. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Jesup, and a member of United Methodist Women. Yearous is survived by her husband, Wayne of Independence; two daughters: Sheila Bloxham of Vancouver, WA, Janice (Jim) Cameron of Jesup; two sons: David (Sue) Yearous of New Hampton and Douglas (Lois) Yearous of Spokane, Wash.; 10 grandchildren, five great-granddaughters; two brothers: Ronald Chandler of Independence and Michael (Kathy) Chandler of Watertown, Wis. and one sister, Patricia Colton of Cedar Rapids. Her parents, one sister, Marcia Peteavage and one granddaughter, Brooke Yearous, preceded her in death. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. – Friday, June 5, at the First United Methodist Church, Jesup, with Rev. Vicki Reece officiating. Music will be by Dawn Quackenbush, organist and Nancy Eckholm, soloist. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Matthew Yearous, Danielle Yearous, Natasha Yearous, and Cameron Yearous. Casket Bearers will be Derek Cameron, Cody Cameron, Caleb Cameron, Tyler Yearous, Michael Yearous, and Shawon Yearous. Burial will be at Cedar Crest Cemetery, Jesup. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 4, at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, and for an hour before services Friday at the church.
