Ralph Richard Hawkins (1940 - 2015)

INDEPENDENCE – Ralph Richard Hawkins, 75, of Independence, entered into his eternal rest on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at Lexington Place in Independence.
Ralph Richard Hawkins was born Jan. 5, 1940 at St. Lucas, Iowa the son of Ralph and Loretta Drilling Hawkins. He attended school and graduated from Waucoma High School.
Ralph was married to Shirley Mott on May 19, 1961. To this union were born four children: Jim , Mike, Christine, and Sue. The family lived in Cedar Rapids and later Jesup. Ralph and Shirley were later divorced.
Ralph worked at National Oats in Cedar Rapids and then John Deere in Waterloo. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and spending time with his grandchildren. He lived for a time at Jackson Junction and the past four years has lived at Winthrop and Independence.
Ralph was preceded in death by his father and a brother Donald Hawkins.
Survivors include his mother Loretta of New Hampton; his four children: Jim (Meshell) Hawkins of Independence; Mike Hawkins of Sacramento, Calif.; Christine (John) Kerkove of Independence; and Sue (Ron) Hoefer of Masonville; eight grandchildren: Bret and Alyssa Hawkins; Daniel, Scott, and Paige Kerkove; Brittany (Matt) Holt, Kaitlyn and Jordan Hoefer; two sisters: Marge Hoggatt of Tacoma, Wash., and Virginia Bock of Janesville, Iowa; and a sister-in-law Mary Hayden-Wing of Laramee, Wyo.
Memorial services will be 8 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015 at the Fawcett Funeral Home in Winthrop. Graveside services for his cremains will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, 2015 at St. Mary's Cemetery at Waucoma, Iowa. Friends may call from 5 until 8 p.m. Saturday at Fawcett Funeral Home in Winthrop.
