INDEPENDENCE– Richard DeWayne Kress, 70, of Burlington, died at 7:23 p.m. Sunday, March 11, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born May 12, 1941, in Independence, he was the son of Carl Weld and Bernice Louella Butterfield Kress.
Richard was a traveling salesperson for Midwest Biscuit Company and several other companies.
He was a graduate of Independence High School.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Burlington Aerie 150 and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 579. He was a handy man and enjoyed yard work, remodeling homes, fishing, and working on his Ford Ranger truck.
Survivors include one daughter, Shawn (Scott) McMahon of Phoenix, Ariz; one son, Craig (Dawn) Kress of Cedar Falls; one granddaughter, Kalleigh Kress; three sisters, Vivian (Omer) Legreid of Holts Summit, Mo., Joan (Darrell) Pint of Jesup, and Sally (Charles) Rohrer of Cedar Rapids; one brother, Alan (Judy) Kress of Independence; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
As per Richard's request cremation has been accorded.
Memorial Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, with Rev. Dr. Scott Meador, officiating. Inurnment will be held in the Quasqueton Cemetery, Quasqueton. Visitation was from 12 Noon to services Friday at the funeral home.
