Rita M. Weepie (1917 - 2011)

INDEPENDENCE - Rita M. Weepie, 94, of Independence, died Friday, Nov. 11, at the Buchanan County Long Term Care Center, in Independence.
Rita was born on Sept. 27, 1917, near Oran, the daughter of Frank and Katherine (Schmidt) Kane. She graduated from the Fairbank High School, Fairbank, and the Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls. On Aug. 28, 1945 she was married to Wayne F. Weepie in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fairbank. She taught school in country schools near Eagle Center, Arlington and Independence prior to her retirement.
She is survived by a son Gregory (Marlene Weepie), Independence; three grandchildren; Nicole (Mike) DeSprito, Teresa Weepie, and Tyler Weepie, a great grandson; Alexander VanDusseldorp, and a brother; Cletus Kane, Oklahoma City, Okla.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wayne in 1994, and two brothers; Anthony and James Kane.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Nov. 15, at St. John's Catholic Church, Independence. Burial was in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Independence.
Reiff Funeral Home and Crematory, Independence, was in charge of arrangements.
The family would like to thank the staff of Cedar Valley Hospice and the Buchanan County Long Term Care Center for their kind and compassionate care.
