OELWEIN – Robert M. McCarty, 95, of Oelwein, died on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 Noon, Saturday, Feb. 18, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to Noon on Saturday at the church. Inurnment at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Winthrop.

Robert Maxwell McCarty was born on Sept. 6, 1921 in rural Winthrop, the son of Dale Michael and Nellie Atlanta (Carrier) McCarty. He graduated from Independence High School in Independence in the Class of 1939. Robert was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Eagan on July 6, 1941 at St. John's Catholic Church Rectory in Independence. He owned and operated McCarty Upholstery in Independence from 1945 until he moved to Oelwein in 1950. Bob continued his upholstery business in Oelwein until he retired in 1984. Following the death of Mary on Sept. 18, 2014, Bob moved to Colorado Springs to live with his daughter.
Bob was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a 3rd degree member of the Oelwein Knights of Columbus. He was also a charter member of the Oelwein Sertoma Club where he had previously served as President and was a life-time member.
Left to honor Bob's memory are his daughter, Colleen (Robert) Bardy of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three grandchildren: Katherine Marie (Jared) Wiegand of Sheboygan, Wis., Daniel (Danielle) Ohl of Sheboygan Falls, Wis., and Elizabeth Ohl of Colorado Springs, Colo. and her boyfriend, Michael Kuper of Aurora, Colo.; and two great grandchildren: Isabella Marie Wiegand and Lucas Maxwell Wiegand.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two brothers: Richard McCarty and John McCarty.
