INDEPENDENCE – Roger D. Johnson, 68 years old, of Independence, died on Tuesday, June 25, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. He was born on May 4, 1945, in Independence, the son of George Herbert and Wylma Iris (Dodge) Johnson. He graduated from high school in Independence. Before retiring in 1995, he was a quality inspector at John Deere in Waterloo. On July 5, 1996, he and the former Karen Kay Bantz were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Karen; two sons, Mike (Jana) Johnson of Jesup, and Roger L. Johnson of Independence; and three grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Jeanne Higgs of Wooster, Ohio; one brother, Brian Johnson of Wooster, Ohio; two step sons, Brent (Nikki) Kimmerle of Winona, Minn., and Shane (Shari) Higgins of Nevada, eight step grandchildren; and three dogs, Nip, Tuck, and Sofie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Joanne.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, at the Jesup Bible Fellowship in Jesup, with Pastor Mike Nemmers officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence.
