Roland C. Seamans, 86 , of Independence, died on Monday, April 12, 2010, a the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence following a short illness. He was born on May 25, 1923, in Perry Township of Buchanan County, the son of Wilmer Heman and Elsie B. (McGlaughlin) Seamans. He attended school in Littleton. Seamans served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On Dec. 10, 1943, he and the former Arlene June Kauten were married at the Presbyterian Church in Waterloo. She preceded him in death in 2005. Seamans farmed in Buchanan County until he retired.
Seamans is survived by one son, Richard (Shirley) Seamans of Independence; one daughter, Karen (Ronald) Arp of Independence; seven grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters: Becky VanDaele of Independence; Louella Stoneman of Overland Park, Kan., and Ruth (Don) Meade of Waterloo, and two brothers: Charles (Kathy) Seamans of Fredericksburg, and Lowell (Betty) Seamans of Dunkerton.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Marcen Seamans and Gordon Seamans, and one sister, Naomi Boyce. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 16, 2010, at the White Funeral Home in Independence. On Thursday, April 15th, there will be a Military Service beginning at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rowley Cemetery in Rowley, Iowa.
