Ronald Larry White (1927 - 2012)

INDEPENDENCE– Ronald "Larry" White, 85, of Independence, Iowa died Monday, July 9, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo.
Larry was born on June 12, 1927, in Mason City the son of Wilbur and Agnes (Hanzelka) White. In 1934 the family moved to Wyoming where he helped his father farm until returning to Iowa in 1939. He married Donna E. McFee on March 26, 1956 in Peoria, Ill. The couple resided in Independence, and Larry was employed as a Glazier with the Allied Glass Company in Cedar Rapids for 42 years prior to his retirement.
He loved camping, hunting, and cars, restoring several cars, his favorite a 1955 Chevy Bel Air Convertible, the car he and Donna drove along U.S. Route 66 from Chicago to the Santa Monica Pier in California. He was a member of the Black Hawk Street Machines and the Indy's Best Car Club, serving as president.
His family was the most important part of his life, his grandchildren and great grandchildren kept him laughing the last 39 years of his life, His sense of humor, and his "lead you down the garden path stories" as well as his love of life will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife Donna White, Independence; five children; Chuck (Teri) White, Oelwein, David (Ruth Ellen) White, Littleton, Colo., Randy White, Waterloo, Ronda See, Independence, and Renee (Richard) Heffernen, Toney, Ala., twelve grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, a great-great grandson, and a sister; Barb Dixon, Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister; Ruth Hackert.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at the Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence. Friends may call at the funeral home from 12 Noon till services Saturday.
