DELMAR - Ronald D. Stevens, age 78, of Maquoketa, Iowa, and formerly of Delmar, died on Thursday, June 25, at the Jackson County Regional Health Center in Maquoketa.
A celebration of his life was held Monday at the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa, with Chaplain/Celebrant Rev. Ruth Ann Scott of Carson and Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa officiating. Service was Monday at Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services.
Ronald D. Stevens was born on May 18, 1931 in Rowley, Iowa, to Elmer E. Stevens and Freda (Mershon) Stevens. He was a 1948 graduate of Rowley High School. He married Virginia Steifel in Independence. He then married Sandra K. Freeland on April 17, 1976 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She preceded him in death on October 30, 2005.
Ronald first worked for John Deere implement dealers in Rowley and Oelwein. He then began a 40-year career with John Deere, first in the Waterloo Works plant as a technical and mechanical spec writer and in 1980 moved to Van Wert, Ohio, working as a district technician. In 2003 they moved to Delmar.
Ronald is survived by children, Mark (Becky) Stevens of Owatonna, Minn. and Diane (Dave) Johnson of Urbana; step-children: Teresa Rapp of Coal Valley, Ill, Rodney Hays, Jr. of Ill., and Dawn (Alan) Zeigler of Ohio City, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Mary Ann (Dean) Gerard of Iowa City; Peggy (Curly) Brame of Maquoketa, and Barb (Don) Forsyth of Bella Vista, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Sandra.
