INDEPENDENCE - Ruby M. Gienapp Linsley, 93, of Independence, died Nov. 18, at the Buchanan County Health Center LTC in Independence following a short illness. She was born on June 3, 1917, in Delaware County, near Delhi, the daughter of George and Laura (Burdick) Green. She graduated from high school in Delhi with the Class of 1935 and two years later graduated as the valedictorian from the Hopkinton Teachers College. She also attended the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. On Sept. 25, 1940, she and Bernie Harry Henry Gienapp were married in Delhi. He preceded her in death in 1989. On Feb. 2, 1991, she and Millard Francis Linsley were married in Independence. He preceded her in death in 1994. Mrs. Linsley taught school in the Hopkinton school system, St. Athanasius School in Jesup, Iowa, and G.E.D. classes at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo. She retired from teaching in 1988.
Linsley is survived by two daughters: Berdina (Danny) Palmer of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Sheryl (Jim) Ball of Independence, and two sons: Gary Gienapp of Dallas, Georgia, and Dale (Laurie) Gienapp of Boston, Mass. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, Taylor Miner; one step-son, Melvin Linsley; one daughter-in-law, Carol Gienapp, and a special friend, Dale Bowden.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 22, 2010, at the White Funeral Home in Independence. Burial will be at 2 p.m. on Monday in Hopkinton Cemetery in Hopkinton, Iowa.
