Independence - Sharon K. Newton, 64, of St. Louis, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Friday, April 16, 2010, at her home in St. Louis following a sudden illness. She was born Sept. 24, 1945, in New Hampton, the daughter of Henry and Alvera Ann (Eiler) Porter. She graduated from high school (as Valedictorian) in Lawler, with the Class of 1963, and then earned her nursing degree from Mt. Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1966. On Oct. 12, 1974, she and Patrick Lee Newton were married in Clayton, Mo. He preceded her in death in 1979. Mrs. Newton was a psychiatric nurse at the Mental Health Institute in Independence until retiring. Newton is survived by her daughter Kaelee (Phil Brooks) Newton of St. Louis.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at St. John's Catholic Church in Independence. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in Independence.
