Steven Daniel Mock, 89, of rural Sumner, died at his home on Thursday evening, March 18, 2010.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fairbank.
Visitation: 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein. Rosary Service: 4:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home Scripture Service: 6:30 P.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Interment will be at St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Independence with Military Graveside Rites by the Fairbank American Legion Fortsch-Duffy Post #552.

Mock was born Aug. 30, 1920 at Independence, the son of George Nicholas & Agnes Rosaria (Rogge) Mock. He received his education at the rural Independence Schools. Steven joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served for four years during W.W. II on the USS Menominee in the South Pacific. Following his military service, he purchased a farm near Oran where he began farming in 1947. Steven was then united in marriage to Madeline Lucille Wendling on February 15, 1950 at St. John Catholic Church in Independence. He lived and farmed near Oran throughout his lifetime.
Steven, Madeline and their family enjoyed fishing and boating for many summers at their cabin at McGregor. Steven and Madeline also traveled the western United States in their motor home for many winters. Steven was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fairbank and the Fairbank American Legion Fortsch-Duffy Post #552.
Steven is survived by his Wife: Madeline Mock of Sumner; 2 Daughters: Pam (Ron) Kerr McDow of Glendale, Arizona & Jane Pagel of Westgate; 3 Grandchildren: Lacey Mae (Brandon) Tieskoetter of Ossian, Jesse Rose Pagel of Westgate & Alexander Douglas Pagel of Westgate and a Special Caregiver: Bridget Matthias.
Steven was preceded in death by his Parents, Daughter: Susan in 1973, Son-In-Law: Steve Kerr in 1974, Grandson: Shawn Kerr in 1993, Son-In-Law: Douglas Pagel in 2003, 10 Brothers & Sisters: Joe Mock, Clarence Mock, Ed Mock, Lelah Bizinger, Maude Hess, Helen Roenfeldt, Alice Milanan, Florence Mock, Isabell Givens & Edna Fest.
